Randy L. Dodson of Kingsport, TN and Chad M. Thomas of Roanoke, VA Promoted to Principals of Regional Engineering Firm
KINGSPORT, TN / ROANOKE, VA – Mattern & Craig Engineers & Surveyors, a civil & structural engineering and surveying firm with offices in TN, NC, and VA has announced the appointment of two new principals effective July 1st , 2014.
Mattern & Craig, a regional engineering, and surveying firm is pleased to announce Randy L. Dodson and Chad M. Thomas as principals. Both are accomplished engineers and project managers that exemplify Mattern & Craig’s core values of client satisfaction and dedication to providing quality service.
Randy L. Dodson is the Transportation Division Head in M&C’s Kingsport, Tennessee office. Randy graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering Technology from Virginia Tech in 1979.
For 13 years, prior to joining Mattern & Craig in 1995, Randy worked for the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) in Nashville, TN in their Roadway Design Section.
Randy has over 35 years of experience on transportation projects as a Design Engineer and Project Manager. He and his staff have extensive experience in traffic impact studies, traffic signal design; roadway design including storm drainage system and culvert design; intersection improvement studies and design; interchange design; roadway safety analysis including safety and accident studies and reports, corridor location studies and transportation planning reports, public involvement meetings, and services relating to preparing bid documents, bidding and negotiation and construction administration.
A native of Henry County, VA, Randy and his wife live in Gray, Tennessee where he is an active member of Strong Tower Baptist Church. He is also an active member of the Kingsport Rotary Club, where he is presently a member of the Sunshine & Invocation/Pledge Committees. He is an avid golfer and enjoys teaching Sunday School.
Chad M. Thomas, PE, is the head of the firm’s Structural Division. He graduated in 1998 from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Chad is a registered Professional Engineer in Virginia and Tennessee. He has 15 years of expertise in a broad range of structural projects.
Chad is responsible for production and quality assurance including scheduling of work assignments and staffing for all structural projects.
Chad has served as Design Engineer and Project Manager on various types of projects. These projects include the structural design and analysis of bridges, building foundations, stormwater, water and wastewater treatment facilities, as well as structural rehabilitation and repairs of bridges, water reservoirs and other miscellaneous structures.
Chad and his family live in Roanoke, Virginia. He enjoys playing outdoor sports such as soccer and golf and is an avid Virginia Tech fan.
